Volcanic soil comprises less than 1% of the Earth’s soil. Volcanic wines are produced from grapes grown in soils rich with basalt (hardened lava), pumice, and volcanic sands. In this class, we will explore the world of wines made from grapes cultivated in these volcanic soils (Greece, Hungary, Canary Islands, Italy, and the United States). We’ll explore the effects of this unique soil has on the flavor and aromas of these wines, and what sets these wines apart.
